Window & Door Industry Council

The Window and Door Industry Council Inc. (WADIC) is a service organisation for timber window and door manufacturers supplying products to the building and construction industry.

WADIC’s role is to assist members in compliance with relevant Australian Standards and codes, to promote the environmental and energy performance benefits of member’s products, and provide members with options for window energy rating systems.

A major focus for WADIC is to provide information on member’s products to the marketplace through its website, and to promote timber windows as a superior product in meeting energy and environmental goals in building performance. Members of WADIC specialise in well designed and functional window and door systems and see themselves as craftsmen, not as assemblers of window components. They also pride themselves on providing the best possible products and service to their customers.

WADIC actively participates in the development of Australian Standards and other regulatory reform processes to enable builders, architects, building designers and consumers to be assured that WADIC members are up-to-date with all compliance issues. A major service to members is provision of a “Compliance Manual”, developed by WADIC to meet the requirements of the regulatory environment with appropriate specifications and test results that support member’s products.

WADIC is an organisation committed to supporting energy conservation and environmentally sustainable products, through ongoing development and assistance to their members in the timber window and door manufacturing industry.

What is AS2047?

Under the Building Code of Australia all manufacturers of windows, sliding glazed doors, adjustable glass louvres and shopfronts must comply with Australian Standard AS2047 Windows and external glazed doors in buildings. The manufacturer is required to certify that the product they are supplying was designed to conform with AS2047.

THE WADIC ADVANTAGE

The WADIC Compliance Manual offers far more AS2047 test results than a small or medium joinery factory could afford to test themselves, saving our members thousands of dollars. WADIC also provide advice from industry specialists on matters of Standards, Regulations and Thermal requirements.

CUSTOMISED THERMAL RATINGS

The WADIC custom ratings have been modelled by Dr. Peter Lyons and audited by Ian Bennie and Associates both of whom are appropriately accredited. These values are presented conservatively and cover a wide range of timber species (densities). The glass varieties were chosen to represent the widest range of glass thicknesses and varieties also. Importantly the profiles used for these ratings were modelled using the smaller sectional sizes as shown in our WADIC Compliance Manual examples and therefore thicker timber framing and profiles would deliver a better result.

TRAINING FOR BUSHFIRE FABRICATORS

WADIC has undergone extensive testing on behalf of its members and can offer licensed compliance members the opportunity to be trained in the fabrication of a comprehensive range of Western Red Cedar Bushfire Attack Level 29 window and door assemblies. Training for new Bushfire Fabricators is undertaken once a year.
