Annual Wage Increase 2014

Last Wednesday, the Fair Work Commission announced its annual wage review decision adjusting award review decision (read more here) wages and the federal minimum wage by 3% effective from the first pay period on or after 1 July 2014. This brings the national minimum wage for adults to $640.90 per week or $16.87 per hour. The trade rate will be increased by 3% resulting in the apprenticeship wages for both pre and post 1 January 2014 being increased.

Rates applicable to preserved Queensland state awards applying to apprentices and trainees will also be adjusted by the annual wage decision.

The Fair Work Commission has kept the national minimum wage case increase in line with previous years and the CPI. It is noted that the Fair Work Commission took into account the increase in Superannuation Guarantee Levy from July 1 from 9.25% to 9.5% and that the CPI increased by 2.9 per cent over the past year.
